Swimming Pool & Spa Microbiological Testing

Heavenly Hot Tubs

Microbiological Water Testing

Based in East Kilbride and operating throughout Scotland and the UK, Heavenly Hot Tubs are a complete hot tub and swimming pool solution provider.

More and more businesses are opening and providing hot tubs/spa pools in a business setting, by doing so you need to be aware of the legislation involved and what you must do to remain compliant.

Heavenly Hot Tubs uses an independent UKAS-accredited laboratory for Legionella testing and microbiological water analysis

Following sampling, we interpret the lab results and explain these in layman terms, and in the event of a positive test result, we will advise safe and corrective actions to conform with the current guidelines:

HSE Recommendation

"The frequency and extent of the microbiological sampling strategy should be determined by the risk assessment."

As a minimum requirement for a hot tub made available to the public:

Microbiological tests for E Coli, ACC, Coliforms and P Auerginosa.

Tests for Legionella.

These tests should be sent to a UKAS-accredited laboratory.

Additional testing should be done when:
  • A hot tub is first used or commissioned.
  • A contamination incident as occurred.
  • There is doubt about the effectiveness of the control regime.
  • Alterations are made to the treatment or maintenance routine.

For more information and guidance on microbiological water testing, see paragraph 153 of the HSG282 document.

What bacteria do we test for?
  • TVC (Total Viable Count)
  • P . aeruginosa
  • Total Coliforms
  • E . coli
Why do we test for this?

Microbiological testing is necessary to ensure guest’s safety. Microbiological tests should be done monthly, and Legionella tests should be done quarterly.
